AFP-SD Announces Partnership with the South Dakotans Against Higher Taxes Coalition
SIOUX FALLS, S.D.—Americans for Prosperity-South Dakota (AFP-SD) today announced its plans to join the “South Dakotans Against Higher Taxes” coalition against the creation of a new tax with the passage of Initiated Measure 25 (IM-25) on November’s ballot. IM25 is a poorly written proposal that will levy a multi-million dollar tax increase through implementing a sales tax on tobacco products and cigarettes in the name of funding technical schools. Unfortunately, not only is there no guarantee that this new revenue stream will go towards its intended purpose, relying on an unstable revenue source sets the state legislature up for finding a new item to tax in the future.
AFP-SD activists and staff will work with South Dakotans Against Higher Taxes to help defeat IM25 on November’s ballot, including through grassroots efforts with canvassing and phone banking.
AFP-SD State Director Don Haggar released the following statement:
“Our activists are excited to engage in defeating IM25 and its proposed tax increase that will appear on November’s ballot. If IM25 passes, it will open the floodgates for the legislature to tax any goods or services they see fit to fund non-transparent pet projects, while leaving taxpayers holding the bag. South Dakotans resoundingly reject unwarranted tax increases, which we believe they will do again in November by rejecting IM25.”
