COLUMBIA, SC—This week, Americans for Prosperity-South Carolina (AFP-SC) is thrilled to see the Senate unanimously pass S. 1046 which would significantly reform the Palmetto State’s selection of judges. The legislation would increase transparency and accountability for the Judicial Merit Selection Commission (JMSC) and give the state’s elected officials more voice in choosing judges.
AFP-SC State Director, Candace Carroll, released the following statement:
“AFP-SC is glad to see the Senate gather support behind this bill that is a step in the right direction to reforming our judicial system. In South Carolina, we’d like to see a process where all qualified applicants can be considered by the legislature rather than solely in the hands of the JMSC.
“Members know what their constituents want and by creating a more transparent process, South Carolina will likely see more talent in our judicial system get an even chance.”
