AFP-SC Applauds House Passage of the Small Business Regulatory Freedom Act, a Monumental Step for Breaking down Burdensome Regulations

Columbia, SC – Americans for Prosperity – South Carolina (AFP-SC) celebrates the passage of the Small Business Regulatory Freedom Act (H 3021), a crucial step towards reducing burdensome regulations and empowering small businesses in South Carolina.

H 3021 is South Carolina’s version of the Regulations from the Executive In Need of Scrutiny (REINS) Act. Similarly to REINS, H 3021 strengthens legislative oversight by requiring any rule with an economic impact of $1 million or more over a 5-year period to undergo legislative review. While prioritizing transparency and accountability, the bill still ensures the Executive Branch would have the ability to act in times of emergency and respond to a rapidly changing regulatory landscape.

AFP-SC Director of Public Affairs, Candace Carroll, released the following statement:

“Thank you to the South Carolina House for advancing the Small Business Regulatory Freedom Act. With over 136,000 restrictions on books, South Carolina’s regulatory code has been a major burden for economic advancement. This bill is a necessary step toward ensuring regulations are transparent and subject to proper legislative oversight.

“At AFP-SC, we champion policies that foster economic prosperity. Our activists played a key role in advancing H 3021, engaging with lawmakers, and testifying before the state House. We are committed to continuing our grassroots movement to help push H 3021 across the finish line, cutting unnecessary red-tape, and creating a more prosperous economic environment for South Carolina to be the freest state in the south.”

Background

This year, AFP is fighting to pass REINS-style legislation in nearly two dozen states by unleashing its grassroots army to inform citizens in key regions, deploying targeted digital ads and mail campaigns, and connecting constituents with their elected representatives to demand regulatory reform.

AFP-SC has been a top advocate for H 3021, mobilizing grassroots efforts, testifying in support of the bill, and issuing key voter alerts to South Carolina lawmakers. House Speaker Murrell Smith has also been a gracious advocate, recognizing H 3021’s potential to unleash economic prosperity in South Carolina.
