CHICAGO, IL —Following Governor J.B. Pritzker’s annual State of the State and budget address, Americans for Prosperity-Illinois State Director Jason Heffley released the following statement:
“Despite the rosy picture Governor Pritzker tried to paint, our state is clearly in disarray – from crushing inflation and cost-of-living increases to the migrant crisis at our doorstep. While Pritzker proposes an onslaught of new government spending, Illinois faces a steep budget shortfall of nearly $900 million for the coming fiscal year.
“Pritzker was correct to blame the federal government and President Biden’s policies for our state’s migrant crisis, but his administration needs to show more accountability and transparency when using taxpayer dollars to address the issue. There are far too many Illinois families facing economic uncertainty to accept anything less with our tax dollars.
“AFP appreciates the governor’s advocacy to protect taxpayers from stadium subsidies and disastrous right of first refusal energy proposals facing the legislature. We appreciate the governor’s work to eliminate the grocery tax and hope Pritzker will show that same fiscal restraint and remember those taxpayers when considering the final budget.
“Additionally, we encourage the governor to pursue education reform bills that put families in the driver’s seat of their child’s education, like funding the crucial Invest In Kids Act.”
