AFP-Pennsylvania Applauds House of Representatives for Expansion of Nursing Scope of Practice

HARRISBURG, Pa. – Americans for Prosperity – Pennsylvania (AFP-PA) today commended state representatives for passing HB100. The bill would expand the scope of practice for advanced nurse practitioners to deliver services without a physician’s supervision, increasing the number of available medical professionals to address the shortage local communities face during the current health crisis.

The grassroots group launched its Health Care Reimagined campaign in late May, focusing on SB25 and HB100 to help those impacted by COVID-19. AFP’s campaign details a positive vision for health care that facilitates immediate, meaningful improvements to America’s health care system.

AFP-PA State Director Ashley Klingensmith issued the following statement:

“There could not have been a better time for the House to act on this legislation since its introduction seven years ago. This bill will expand access to critical health care services in the Keystone State, where most counties are experiencing shortages, especially in rural areas. Thank you to Pennsylvania House Speaker Bryan Cutler and House Majority Leader Kerry Benninghoff for reprioritizing this piece of legislation that will ensure more patients get the care they need. We encourage the Senate to apply the same level of urgency to this bill as they did to SB 25, a bill that sought to modernize our Professional Nursing Law last June, to make sure that it swiftly moves to Governor Wolf’s desk for his signature.”
