AFP-OK Applauds Second Chances Thanks to Legislative Action, Governor’s Commutation
OKLAHOMA CITY, OK—Americans for Prosperity-Oklahoma (AFP-OK) today applauded the efforts of lawmakers from both parties for important reforms made to the state’s criminal justice system in this year’s legislative session. AFP-OK was an instrumental voice in passing House Bill 1269 that retroactively reclassified low-level drug offenses, laying the groundwork for 527 incarcerated individuals to have a second chance at rejoining their communities. Oklahoma’s Pardon and Parole Board now has the chance to grant those who have paid their debts to society access to opportunities.
AFP-OK State Director John Tidwell issued the following statement:
“We’re excited to see the smart on crime, soft on taxpayers’ approach to policy come to fruition and make a real impact on Oklahomans. Thank you to Oklahoma’s lawmakers, Governor Stitt, and the Pardon and Parole Board for recognizing the importance of second chances.”
