CONCORD, NH – Americans for Prosperity-New Hampshire (AFP-NH) today urged House members to oppose House Bill 616, which would add further burden on the New Hampshire Retirement System by adding a cost of living adjustment and requiring greater contributions from local and county governments, leading to higher property taxes.
“Eliminating our unfunded liability has been a bipartisan effort that is still in the first stages of ensuring the long-term solvency of the state’s retirement system. This bill takes us in the wrong direction of this bipartisan effort and raises property taxes without giving any additional benefits to taxpayers,” said Greg Moore, AFP-NH State Director. “Legislators should continue the bipartisan work to reduce the unfunded liability and not place an additional burden on property taxpayers that also puts the retirement security of both current and retired public workers in further jeopardy.”
