Fiscal conservative group says excess tax revenue should be used to lower tax burdens, grow economy
CONCORD, N.H. – Americans for Prosperity-New Hampshire (AFP-NH), the state’s leading grassroots advocate for limited government and economic freedom, on Monday announced a targeted digital ad campaign urging Granite Staters to oppose a $100 million spending effort by legislators. The ad directs Granite Staters to a digital tool that allows them to contact their Senator to voice their opposition to this proposal. Senators are attempting to spend an additional $100 million after federal tax reform created a windfall of $99 million in excess tax revenue this fiscal year, driven by tax relief at the state and federal levels.
“Tax relief and fiscal discipline are what led to New Hampshire having among the fastest growing economies in the nation and a massive revenue surplus. Now is not the time to irresponsibly grow government and spend taxpayer dollars on senators’ pet projects, but instead to double down on success and continue policies that work by cutting taxes,” said Greg Moore, AFP-NH State Director. “The Legislature should seize this great opportunity to lower our tax burdens even more and expand opportunity for all Granite Staters. We urge fiscally responsible citizens to speak up and voice their opposition against this enormous spending binge.”
Background:
New Hampshire’s economy has been booming since business tax cuts went into effect. Recently, New Hampshire hit record low unemployment records with New Hampshire reporting a 2.6% unemployment rate in December 2017, the second lowest in the country.
