AFP-NH Laments Failure of Senate Cannabis Vote

Apr 28, 2022 by AFP

Concord, New Hampshire—Today, the New Hampshire Senate voted against legalizing the home cultivation of cannabis and simple possession of cannabis. House Bill 629 would have allowed Granite Staters to keep three mature cannabis plants and three seedlings in their home for adult use.

An amendment proposed by Americans for Prosperity New Hampshire to legalize possession up to three-quarters of an ounce of cannabis also failed.

Americans for Prosperity- New Hampshire Deputy State Director Ross Connolly issued the following statement lamenting the Senate vote:

“We are disappointed in the New Hampshire Senate’s refusal to stop arresting and fining Granite Staters for possessing a product that can be bought on the other side of our borders. We understood the hesitancy the Senate has for home grow, that is why we proposed a targeted, modest approach to find common ground and bring relief to Granite Staters who choose to use cannabis.

“Unfortunately, the Senate’s rejection of that reasonable change leaves their constituents on an island of prohibition under the threat of fine or arrest.  We will not be deterred and will continue to work to break the barrier of cannabis prohibition in the Live Free or Die state.”
