CONCORD, NH – Following the House’s passage of HB 481, Americans for Prosperity-New Hampshire (AFP-NH) commended lawmakers for taking a step to reduce over-criminalization in the state. The group expressed hope that HB 481 will lead to more reforms that improve New Hampshire’s criminal justice system and ensure equal justice for everyone in the state.

The bill now goes to the House Ways and Means Committee.

AFP-NH Deputy State Director Ross Connolly issued the following statement:

“Today, the New Hampshire House took a positive step forward in limiting the state’s overreach with respect to drug policy. Though not perfect, HB481 is a better alternative to our current outdated cannabis policy and we look forward to working with members of the House Ways and Means Committee to make improvements to the bill.

“New Hampshire still has a long way to go to improve its criminal justice system. We hope HB 481 opens the door to more smart on crime reforms that reduce overcriminalization, deal with crime more appropriately, and ensure equal justice for all Granite Staters.”
