Lincoln, NE – Americans for Prosperity-Nebraska (AFP-NE) applauded the Legislature for passing LB1212, which would remove barriers in the state for internationally trained physicians to become licensed without completing a prerequisite U.S. residency. The bill creates a provisional license for those physicians for up to three years, which they can renew once for a total of six years for their license to be effective so long as they meet the bill’s guidelines and immigration work authorization requirements.
AFP Regional Director Jesse Mallory gave the following statement:
“The Legislature deserves a huge round of applause for passing this bill. As long as internationally trained physicians meet its established requirements, there is no reason for them to face excessive barriers to being allowed to work in Nebraska and treat patients here. It’s reassuring that state lawmakers agreed to pass this commonsense measure, and I hope Governor Pillen quickly signs it into law.”
