AFP-NC Issues Statement on Concerning MLB Rule Changes

Apr 1, 2023 by AFP

Raleigh, North Carolina—Americans for Prosperity-North Carolina (AFP-NC) today addressed the unsettling new changes in Major League Baseball following opening day on Thursday.

On Thursday, March 30, Major League Baseball celebrated their 147th Opening Day. This Opening Day would see major rule changes including: a first-ever pitch clock, the elimination of the shift, and bigger bases.

AFP-NC Deputy State Director Tyler Voigt issued the following statement after watching games across the league on Opening Day:

“When AFP-NC first became aware of the potential rule changes coming to America’s pasttime, we were concerned. After seeing the changes playout on the field this week, we knew that it was time to get involved.

Mandating where defenders stand and when a pitcher needs to pitch adds unnecessary and burdensome barriers to athletes reaching their full potential.”

AFP-NC Legislative Liaison Dalton Clark added:

“Increasing the size of the bases is another example of the big bases lobby interfering with the game. AFP-NC will be calling on activists and legislators alike to come together and protect the game so many of us love.”
