AFP-MO: Legislators Should Shut Down $50 Million Sweetheart Deal
JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – Americans for Prosperity-Missouri (AFP-MO) criticized a deal that would grant upwards of $50 million in taxpayer-funded subsidies to General Motors for expanding its plant in Wentzville. The package, which is paired with a workforce development programs, needs to be approved by legislators before the legislative session ends on May 17.
AFP-MO State Director Jeremy Cady issued the following statement:
“It is not the role of government to pick winners and losers, and these are exactly the kinds of misguided policies that keeps Missouri’s economy from firing all cylinders. Lawmakers should focus on lowering tax rates and eliminating unnecessary regulations to empower entrepreneurs to create jobs, not enriching handpicked or well-connected businesses at the expense of the taxpayers.”
