Minnesota legislature delays action to address concerns related to increased health care taxes
St. Paul, MN – Americans for Prosperity-Minnesota (AFP-MN) is thanking the members of the Health and Human Services Reform Committee for tabling a bill that would have placed an additional per pill tax burden onto patients already struggling with increased health care costs. AFP-MN sent the members of the committee a key vote letter calling on the members to vote “No” on HF1440.
AFP-MN State Director, Jason Flohrs released the following statement:
“There is no question that the ongoing opioid crisis demands a serious response from key institutions across our society, but this bill is not the correct way for the government to go about doing so. We thank the members of the Health and Human Services Reform Committee for not moving the bill forward as is and for taking the time to address funding and implementation concerns raised with HF1440 during the hearing.”
“There are already numerous options available to fund worthy opioid abuse prevention and enforcement programs. We will continue to urge lawmakers to prioritize the funds the Legislature already has at its disposal – and prioritize the needs of our citizens who depend on these drugs as a tool on their road to recovery.”
AFP-MN released their “Roadmap to Prosperity” policy agenda to show lawmakers a path to improving the economic climate and to make Minnesota a more open and free society. HF1440 – as it currently stands – goes directly against restoring fiscal stability and protecting taxpayers from out of control spending and overregulation.
