AFP-MN Testifies Against Education Barriers During National School Choice Week

Jan 29, 2025 by AFP

ST. PAUL, MN – Today, Americans for Prosperity-Minnesota (AFP-MN) took this National School Choice Week to highlight bureaucratic hurdles in Minnesota’s education system by testifying before the state Senate.

In a hearing before the Senate Education Finance Committee, AFP-MN urged lawmakers to allow for open enrollment, so that arbitrary school district borders don’t limit a child’s educational opportunities and parents aren’t criminalized for trying to give their children the best chance at success by crossing these lines.

AFP-MN will continue urging lawmakers to get back to work and pass “No More Lines” legislation and decriminalize education so that every student can receive a free public education at the best schools Minnesota has to offer, regardless of their zip code.

Jake Coleman, AFP-MN state director, gave the following statement:

“While the Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party is busy boycotting the legislative session, Minnesota students are stuck in schools that are failing them. It’s clear that they care more about power than doing work to improve opportunities for the families and students they represent.

“Between our state’s discriminatory education policies, high taxes, and nonfunctional government, it’s no wonder why families are leaving Minnesota in droves.”
