ST. PAUL, MN – Yesterday, the United States Senate was unable to secure support to bring President Trump’s spending cuts package to the Senate floor. This package would have been a modest first step toward reducing excessive government spending that has become all too commonplace in Washington.
In a disappointing move, Senator Tina Smith (D-MN), voted against moving President Trump’s rescission package forward for a vote.
Following this vote, AFP-MN State Director Jason Flohrs issued the following statement:
“It’s extremely disappointing Senator Smith cast the deciding vote on a modest spending cut. When the chips were on the table, Senator Smith decided to prioritize D.C. politics over addressing Washington’s runaway spending. The tax and spend culture of Washington will remain if our lawmakers are unwilling to change the status quo. We will continue to urge Minnesota lawmakers to support future efforts to cut spending so that future generations are not saddled with unsustainable debt.”
Earlier this week, AFP-MN began running digital ads throughout the state encouraging Senator Smith to support the package.
