Lansing, Michigan—Tonight, Governor Gretchen Whitmer gave her State of the State Address.
AFP-MI State Director Annie Patnaude released the following response after the Governor’s address:
“The elephant in the room for Gov. Whitmer’s State of the State Address is her support for repealing right to work. She glossed over repealing an immensely popular law that protects workers, boosts Michigan’s economy, and strengthens accountability. This isn’t about what’s in Michigan’s best interest, it’s about the special interests she relies on to fund her campaigns and support her future ambitions.
“Michigan’s future could be bright, but it would require reversing disturbing trends that have taken hold under her administration: Michigan is #1 in the country for small business closures and #6 in the country for outbound moves. Our students have huge learning deficiencies in reading and math, and once again, Michigan’s population is declining.
“That’s why AFP-MI is committed to supporting the policies that revitalized Michigan, including our landmark Right to Work. We will work statewide to oppose these policies and get Michigan back on track.”
