AFP-MI: John James Showed Michigan Families He Understands the Cost-of-Living Crisis While Benson Offered More of the Same

LANSING, MI — Americans for Prosperity–Michigan (AFP–MI) responded to last night’s first gubernatorial debate in Grand Rapids. Jocelyn Benson made clear that she would carry on the Whitmer-era agenda that has driven up costs for Michigan families, while John James, by contrast, laid out a case for breaking from Lansing’s status quo.

AFP-MI State Director Tim Golding issued the following statement:

“Last night, Jocelyn Benson told Michigan voters exactly what they’d get: the same policies, a different manager. Families who are struggling to keep up with grocery bills, energy costs, and housing prices needed to hear a plan to change course, and only John James offered one.

“John James understands that the path to affordability runs through less government, not more. That means getting back to creating opportunity and empowering employers to hire workers, and giving parents real options when schools fail their kids. It means treating Michigan energy as an asset, cutting the permitting delays that prevent homes from being built, and ending the corporate handouts that pick winners and losers with taxpayer money.

“AFP-MI endorsed John James because Michigan cannot afford four more years of Lansing business as usual. Our activists have spent this year fighting for tax relief, energy abundance, education freedom and worker freedom in Lansing, and between now and November we will be knocking on doors across the state to make sure Michigan families understand the choice in front of them.”
