AFP MI Issues Stinging Rebuke of Budget Shenanigans in Lansing

Dec 16, 2022 by AFP

Lansing, Michigan—Today, Americans for Prosperity Michigan (AFP-MI) rebuked the state legislature and Gov. Gretchen Whitmer for numerous instances of cronyism and corruption baked into the state budget.

Reporting from the Detroit News and others indicates that numerous private real estate developers and labor unions profited from earmarks in the budget, all paid for by Michigan taxpayers.

Michigan State Director Annie Patnaude issued the following statement:

“This level of corruption and graft is only possible when the government has a large slush fund to divvy up amongst donors and special interests. Every dollar that Lansing gave to unions or nonprofit fronts for real estate companies came out of the paychecks of hardworking taxpayers. While Michigan’s broken budget process is partly to blame, policymakers should have returned the budget surplus to the people and let Michiganders decided what to do with their own money, not redistribute wealth to the well-connected in Lansing.”
