MILFORD, MI — Americans for Prosperity-Michigan (AFP-MI) says President Donald Trump’s visit to the General Motors Proving Ground in Oakland County this afternoon lands at the right moment for Michigan workers and families, as lower taxes, fewer regulatory roadblocks, and a renewed focus on domestic energy production give the state’s auto industry room to compete again. Gov. Gretchen Whitmer has spent years running the opposite play, doling out billions in corporate subsidies and picked-winner deals that Business Leaders for Michigan says leave the state ranked 27th in the nation for economic prosperity, including one recent program that spent $1.8 billion to create just 602 jobs.
AFP-MI State Director Tim Golding released the following statement:
“Michigan families know taxes are too high and regulations have made it harder to build things in this state. They’ve lived it. What President Trump has gotten right is the direction: keeping more money in workers’ paychecks, cutting the red tape that slows down manufacturers, and treating American energy production as an asset instead of a liability. Those are the conditions under which an auto industry headquartered right here in Michigan can actually plan, invest, and hire.
“President Trump’s endorsement of John James for governor reflects that same understanding of the vital role Michigan plays in this country’s economic future, and James is the candidate ready to build on it. Michigan wins when it’s easier to start a business, build a car, and keep what you earn, and that’s the standard AFP-Michigan will keep holding state and federal policymakers to.”
