BATON ROUGE, La. – Americans for Prosperity-Louisiana (AFP-LA) applauded the House vote on SB 243, which would require a unanimous decision of all 12 jurors in a felony criminal case to convict, instead of only ten jurors. Louisiana and Oregon are the only two states to allow a partial jury conviction.
“Unanimous juries are a hallmark of American jurisprudence and the standard in all states outside of Louisiana and Oregon,” said AFP-LA State Director John Kay. “By advancing this bill, legislators have rightly reinstated the proper protection of Louisianans’ civil liberties. This is, beyond a reasonable doubt, the right thing to do.”
