AFP-KY Cheers House Passage of REINS Bill

Feb 28, 2025 by AFP

FRANKFORT, KYAmericans for Prosperity-Kentucky (AFP-KY) applauded the Kentucky state House of Representatives for passing legislation that would prevent more government red tape. Today, the House passed Kentucky H.B. 6 with a vote of 75-19. The Senate floor is expected to vote on the companion bill next week.

Similar to the REINS (Regulations from the Executive in Need of Scrutiny) Act in Congress, Kentucky H.B. 6 would require any rule or regulation that has a major economic impact to be approved by the state legislature before it can take effect.

AFP-KY State Director, Heather LeMire, released the following statement:

“We’re encouraged to see the state House pass this transformational legislation to ensure transparency and accountability in the state government. Kentucky taxpayers elect legislators, not bureaucrats, which is why those representatives should have the final say in any rule that will affect their lives.

“We want to give a special thanks to Rep. Williams and the legislators who helped pass this critical legislation. AFP-KY and our grassroots activists will continue fighting for REINS this year until it’s signed into law.”

Background:

This year, AFP is fighting to pass REINS-style legislation in nearly two dozen states by unleashing its grassroots army to inform citizens in key regions, deploying targeted digital ads and mail campaigns, and connecting constituents with their elected representatives to demand regulatory reform.
