Topeka, KS—Today, Americans for Prosperity-Kansas (AFP-KS) celebrates the final passage of SCR 1611 which will create a constitutional amendment to abolish the Kansas Supreme Court nomination commission and establish the direct election of the Supreme Court justices, reflective of the original Kansas Constitution that was written with the intent to make all political power inherent in the people.

Through door knocking, digital ads, and a mail campaign, AFP-KS has been championing greater accountability and transparency in Kansas’ judicial selection process and will continue its grassroots work.

AFP-KS State Director, Elizabeth Patton, made the following statement:

“Kansans now have the opportunity to pass this ballot measure and ensure our laws prohibit unelected individuals and special interest groups from ruling the Courts. We are thankful for the many legislators who stood up for accountability and transparency and supported this legislation, taking back the bench and ensuring impartial transparency is the foundation of Kansas’ judicial system. We are encouraging Kansas voters to ensure that we have a truly partial court that represents Kansas and no longer allow attorneys to control an entire branch of government and instead give power to the people.”
