ATLANTA, GA – Americans for Prosperity-Georgia applauds the Georgia House for passing the judicial deference bill HB 1247, sponsored by Rep. Matt Reeves, last night. The 2024 U.S. Supreme Court decision Loper Bright Enterprises v. Raimondo ended the Chevron doctrine at the federal level, and HB 1247 would end judicial deference at the state level. The bill would require Georgia courts to interpret statues and regulations without bias in favor of any agencies.

AFP-GA State Director Tony West issued the following statement:

“We thank Rep. Reeves for championing HB 1247 in the House. This legislation will help restore judicial impartiality and ensure that the opinions of state bureaucrats do not take precedence over what the law dictates. We look forward to Georgia soon joining the other states who have passed similar legislation.”
