ATLANTA, GA – Americans for Prosperity-Georgia (AFP-GA) today praised Governor Brian Kemp for signing HB 1247, the Georgia Bureaucratic Deference Elimination Act, into law. The legislation restores accountability in state government by ensuring Georgia courts interpret statutes and regulations without bias in favor of any agencies and prevents state agencies from receiving automatic judicial deference when disputes over regulations arise.
The legislation also incorporates the Red Tape Rollback Act of 2026, which strengthens transparency in the rulemaking process and establishes regular reviews of existing regulations to identify outdated or unnecessary rules that burden Georgians.
AFP-GA State Director Tony West released the following statement:
“Governor Kemp’s signature on HB 1247 is a major victory for accountable government and the rule of law in Georgia. For too long, unelected agencies have been allowed to expand their authority beyond what lawmakers intended. HB 1247 ensures that unelected bureaucrats are not permitted to bend policy to serve their own interests. Today’s success will help Georgia take further steps toward a more transparent and responsive government.”
