Arlington, Va. – Americans for Prosperity (AFP) welcomed the reintroduction of the Secure and Fair Enforcement (SAFE) Banking Act, which was sponsored by Representatives Ed Perlmutter (D-CO), Nydia Velázquez (D-NY), Steve Stivers (R-OH) and Davidson (R-OH) in the House and Senators Jeff Merkley (D-OR) and Steve Daines (R-MT) in the Senate. The SAFE Banking Act will ensure access to financial services for legitimate cannabis-related businesses and service providers, so that these entrepreneurs can avoid unnecessary barriers, succeed in the marketplace, and contribute to economic recovery.
The grassroots group issued a letter of support to Members of Congress upon its introduction in the House.
Brent Gardner, Chief Government Affairs Officer issued the following statement:
“Current regulations needlessly make it harder for cannabis-related businesses to safely and effectively access capital crucial to growing their enterprise. Reducing these barriers would help a growing industry thrive and unleash tremendous economic opportunity for small businesses and entrepreneurs. We thank this bipartisan coalition for their leadership on this much-needed legislation and look forward to its swift enactment.”
