AFP Debuts Video Celebrating the Declaration of Independence Ahead of America’s 250th

WASHINGTON, D.C.— As America approaches its 250th anniversary, Americans for Prosperity and its friends and partners are spotlighting the enduring importance of the Declaration of Independence through a new video released today, which will also be featured at the Great American State Fair on Thursday, July 2nd.

The video underscores the founding principles embedded in the Declaration of Independence and why they continue to matter today. It highlights the document’s core ideas of dignity, freedom, opportunity, rule of law, limited government, and civic responsibility, and reflects on how those principles can guide the nation into its next 250 years.

The release is part of AFP’s broader “One Small Step” initiative and its “Declaration Project,” a nationwide effort to encourage Americans to reconnect with the nation’s founding ideals. Ahead of Independence Day, AFP has mobilized “Town Criers” across the country with the goal of inspiring more than 100,000 people to read the Declaration of Independence aloud.

At the Great American State Fair, AFP spokesperson Katelyn Bledsoe recently discussed the initiative in an interview with Fox & Friends’ Brian Kilmeade, where a live reading of the Declaration of Independence was featured as part of the project’s programming.

The “One Small Step” initiative is centered on the idea that meaningful change begins with simple civic actions. Since last Independence Day, AFP reports more than 10 million “Steps for Freedom,” surpassing last year’s goal. These actions include community engagement efforts such as attending events, contacting lawmakers, signing petitions, and participating in local civic activities.

AFP Impact by the Numbers:

  • 10+ million Steps for Freedom completed since last Independence Day
  • 17+ million Americans reached through the One Small Step initiative
  • 5,000+ participants at One Small Step events nationwide this year
  • 100,000+ Americans utilized AFP’s educational toolkit on founding principles
  • 63,000+ visitors engaged with Declaration of Independence resources
  • 30,000+ recitations of the Pledge of Allegiance through AFP initiatives
