Arlington, Va. — Americans for Prosperity applauded a move by the White House today that provided specific instructions to federal agencies to “maximize employee performance” and accountability and eliminate duplicative, non-essential or unnecessary programs. This action, led by Office of Management and Budget Director (OMB) Mick Mulvaney, builds upon an executive order signed in March directing federal agencies to increase “efficiency, effectiveness, and accountability.”
The new directions came from Mulvaney in a 14-page memo to heads of agencies across the federal government, and represent important follow-through on this executive order.
AFP Vice President of External Affairs Christine Harbin issued this statement:
“Over the past decade, the federal regulatory state, and, by extension, government bureaucracy, has expanded at an alarming rate. This new action from Director Mulvaney and President Trump shows promise for their effort to right-size federal agencies. This is another important step on two promises made to the American people: reorganizing the federal government and making reasonable changes to the federal workforce to ensure accountability. This action to halt Washington’s administrative overreach will help shape the federal government into one that serves the American people without infringing on their personal freedoms. AFP looks forward to working with the administration and Congress to advance these critical reforms.”
