AFP-Colorado Applauds Senate Passage of Occupational Licensing Reform
DENVER, Colo. – Americans for Prosperity-Colorado (AFP-CO) released the following statement after the Senate passed SB 193 by voice vote. The bill would prohibit committees that administer occupational licenses from imposing licensing requirements unless they can show them to be “necessary and narrowly tailored to address a specific, legitimate public health, safety, or welfare objective.”
“This bill would revamp our overly-burdensome licensing systems that prevents many Coloradans from finding employment,” said AFP-CO State Director Jesse Mallory. “Government should not be in the business of deterring employment, which is what our current occupational licensing system does by instituting excessive fees and asinine training and educational requirements. We hope the House will listen to their constituents and pass this bill instead of succumbing to the pressure of special interests and retaining the current setup.”
