AFP Calls on Lawmakers to Focus on Helping Kansans During Special Session
TOPEKA, Kan. – As lawmakers return to Topeka for another special session, Americans for Prosperity-Kansas State Director Elizabeth Patton issued the following statement:
“With too many Kansans dealing with mounting financial strain, it’s unfortunate that Governor Kelly vetoed truth in taxation legislation that would have provided more transparency and accountability for property taxes, as well as payment flexibility for families impacted by COVID-19.
“During this special session, lawmakers must focus on issues that will directly help Kansans during this unprecedented time. Kansans need certainty. Now, more than ever, we need lawmakers to come together and pass legislation that will swiftly and directly help Kansans recover from this crisis and position our state to better prepared for the next one.”
There were several items in House Bill 2054 that AFP encourages lawmakers to further during this special session:
- Transparency and accountability in the distribution of CARES Acts funds to ensure dollars are being spent wisely and in a way that helps Kansas recover from the pandemic and positions the state to be better prepared for the next crisis
- Extension of the Governor’s Executive Order expanding telemedicine access so that more Kansans can access health care from the safety of their homes
- COVID-19 liability protections for small businesses to ensure that small businesses are able to open safely and provide for their employees and our communities.
