AFP Applauds Trump Executive Order and Encourages Additional Steps for COVID-19 Relief

May 19, 2020 by AFP

Arlington, Va. – Americans for Prosperity commended the Trump administration for issuing the Regulatory Relief to Support Economic Recovery Executive Order, which would seek additional regulations to be waived to promote job creation and growth, call on federal agencies to permanently rescind rules waived in the wake of COVID-19, and outline a regulatory bill of rights.

Americans for Prosperity President Tim Phillips issued the following statement:

“COVID-19 has demonstrated that red tape can often stand in the way of emergency response and economic recovery. Many of the problems we’re experiencing today are decades in the making. They stem from well-meaning but tragically harmful laws and regulations that have accumulated over many years. This isn’t about politics, it’s about breaking barriers that stand in the path of helping people make it through this crisis and get back on their feet. This move will not only help patients get the care they need, but it will also empower the country to recover stronger. We commend the Administration for this common sense executive order and urge Congress to do its part to make these changes permanent and to enact lasting, bottom-up reforms.”

AFP is issuing its recommendations for Congress to ensure long-lasting reforms for federal regulations and burdensome red tape.

Americans for Prosperity recently released, Recover Stronger: A Starting Point to Build An Economy that Works for All, a set of principles and recommendations that offers lawmakers a starting point to build a stronger economy as the country recovers from COVID-19. As Congress considers additional massive spending bills, the guidance is intended to present better alternatives to help the economy recover – and ultimately create a new, stronger economy.

AFP has also partnered with the White House’s initiative on Workforce Mobility and Regulatory Innovation, which included a summit of AFP state leaders and senior administration staff in early March. Building on state rollbacks of burdensome regulations, AFP has been engaged at the federal level calling for an overhaul of the administrative state, a weight on the economy.
