AFP Applauds Senate Steps Towards Transparency and Accountability

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK—Americans for Prosperity-Oklahoma (AFP-OK) today applauded the Senate Rules Committee and Senate Appropriations Committee for passing transparency and accountability bills out of committee. The Senate Rules Committee passed five targeted accountability bills involving appointments of commissions and agencies and the Senate Appropriations Committee passed a bill to create the Legislative Office of Fiscal Transparency.

AFP-OK State Director John Tidwell issued the following statement:

“We applaud the Senate Rules Committee and Senate Appropriations Committee for passing legislation that would allow the people a bigger voice in their government. Oklahomans deserve a say in the making of regulations that affect their everyday activities and transparency in how their tax-dollars are spent. Now, Oklahoma is one step closer to becoming a customer-focused state government.”

AFP-OK will key vote the following bills referenced above:

  • SB 1: Creating a Legislative Office of Fiscal Transparency
  • SB 456: Requiring Administrator to the Oklahoma Health Care Authority to be appointed by the Governor and confirmed by the Senate
  • SB 457: Requiring Director of the Oklahoma Department of Transportation to be appointed by the Governor and confirmed by the Senate
  • SB 458: Requiring Director of the Oklahoma Department of Corrections to be appointed by the Governor and confirmed by the Senate
  • SB 459: Requiring Director of the Oklahoma Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services to be appointed by the Governor and confirmed by the Senate
  • SB 460: Requiring the Executive Director of the Oklahoma Office of Juvenile Affairs to be appointed by the Governor and confirmed by the Senate
