MONTGOMERY, AL – Today, Americans for Prosperity Alabama (AFP-AL) celebrates the unanimous Senate passage of SB167, which would end judicial deference. The bill now heads to the Alabama House of Representatives for final passage. The 2024 U.S. Supreme Court case Loper Bright Enterprises v. Raimondo ended judicial deference at the federal level and paved the way for states like Alabama to work towards ending judicial deference in the states.
AFP-AL State Director Adam Thompson released the following statement:
“AFP-AL is thankful for the leadership of Senator Orr on this important issue and for Senate passage of this bill. This legislation will restore the role of the court system by requiring courts to interpret statutes and regulations without bias in favor of any agencies. We urge the House to quickly pass SB167 so Alabama can join the other states who have passed similar legislation.”
