AFP: $3 Trillion Tax Increase Would Devastate Economy
Arlington, Va. – Americans for Prosperity President Tim Phillips issued the following statement in response to the plan proposed by the House Ways and Means Committee to increase taxes by $3 trillion to “pay for” Sen. Bernie Sanders’ $3.5 trillion reconciliation spending spree:
“Virtually everything Americans buy is getting more expensive, businesses are operating at half capacity because they can’t find enough workers, and Washington’s answer is to increase taxes by nearly $3 trillion to pass the biggest and most wasteful spending bill in history. This Bernie Sanders reconciliation package would be an unmitigated disaster for our economy, it would put inflation into overdrive, raising the cost of groceries and goods that Americans need most. This is not a vision for recovering stronger from this pandemic, it’s an attempt to use a global crisis to put government in control of almost every aspect of our lives.”
