Infrastructure Proposal Slams Brakes on Economic Recovery

Apr 23, 2021 by AFP

CONCORD, NH – Americans for Prosperity-New Hampshire (AFP-NH) today urged the New Hampshire delegation to reject the administration’s proposal of a so-called infrastructure package that has little to do with improving roads and bridges, but would instead harm the economy and increase taxes on small businesses who are struggling to get back on their feet. Vice President Harris is visiting New Hampshire today to tout the infrastructure proposal.

AFP-NH State Director Greg Moore issued the following statement:

“Vice President Harris can try and sell the administration’s infrastructure bill, but Granite Staters won’t buy what she’s selling when they learn this proposal is the most expensive plan in American history that includes some of the largest tax hikes ever. Instead of hiking taxes while countless families and businesses are struggling from the response to the pandemic, the administration should look to our New Hampshire Advantage of low taxes and fiscal responsibility that ushered in a period of unparalleled economic growth.

“The devil is in the details for a proposal as massive as this. Once you examine the allocation of taxpayer dollars, you find this is more of a partisan wish list for special interests than improving our roads and bridges. If Vice President Harris wants to ignite our economy and improve our infrastructure, she should reject this partisan, profligate proposal and focus on helping people keep more of what they earn and unleashing private investment for our infrastructure needs.”

Background:

Since the outset of the pandemic, Americans for Prosperity has advocated alternative solutions to help the economy recover stronger from the pandemic, while at the same time warning against harmful policies that would hinder recovery.

At the beginning of the year, the grassroots group also released the “Save Lives. Save Livelihoods. Recover Stronger.” policy agenda to focus Congress and the Biden administration’s attention during the first 100 days on two of the biggest challenges facing Americans: ending the pandemic and helping the economy recover stronger.
