COLUMBIA, SC—Tonight, following Governor Henry McMaster’s State of the State Address, Americans for Prosperity-South Carolina (AFP-SC) applauded the Governor’s remarks and said its looking forward to another successful year of legislative accomplishments.
AFP-SC State Director, Candace Carroll, released the following statement:
“Governor McMaster laid out a clear vision for yet another successful legislative year in the Palmetto State with a proposed budget that meets our growing economy’s needs.
“Last year, the Governor signed a historic piece of legislation, the State Health Facility Licensure Act, fully repealing Certificate-of-Need laws. As a result, South Carolinians now have more access to quality care than they have had in the past decade. We will continue to advocate for policies that empower patients and ensure they get the care they need.
“During National School Choice Week, we are excited to hear the Governor highlight his education priorities. We look forward to working with our elected officials this legislative session to further advance education freedom, including school choice and promoting education savings accounts.”AFP-SC added that Governor McMaster’s commitment to judicial reform will continue to attract the brightest legal minds to public service in South Carolina while providing oversight to the process.
And while the state saw a surplus in its budget last year, AFP-SC applauded the Governor’s commitment to accelerating personal income tax reform to leave more money in the pocket of taxpayers and keep South Carolina competitive.
Recently, AFP-SC hosted a legislative workshop and lobby day for its grassroots activists and was thrilled to have had 40 meetings with elected officials outlining its 2024 policy priorities.
