Immigration
America needs secure borders and a functioning immigration system. Congress’ decades-long failure to strengthen our border and streamline lawful migration pathways has created a system that undermines the rule of law and fails to meet the needs of American families, workers, and entrepreneurs. We’re focused on permanent border security solutions and immigration policies for a more effective and fair system.
Four Pillars of Border Security and Visa Reform
Secure Border and Ports
Essential for national security and are the first component of upholding the rule of law.
Increase American Competitiveness
China is racing to get ahead. We are in a fierce global competition for breakthroughs in artificial intelligence, semiconductors, and bioengineering. The United States must prioritize attracting the best minds from around the world to secure its leadership position and shape the ethical trajectory of these transformative technologies.
Clear and Predictable Rules
Our current immigration system, with its selectively enforced, confusing, and constantly changing regulations, incentivizes bad actors while penalizing law-abiding individuals. We must simplify these rules to create a system that benefits honest people while holding dangerous and unscrupulous individuals accountable.
Transparency, Accountability, and Due Process
We need regular reports from the Department of Homeland Security that are precise and easy to understand. It is equally important to prevent arbitrary decisions and violations of due process, which harm everyone’s confidence in the system.
Secure the Border, Secure America
Since 2023, the AFP Foundation has taken over 200 Americans to the border towns of Yuma, Arizona, and McAllen, Texas, where they talk to people on the ground (Border patrol agents, farmers, local business owners, volunteers, and even migrants, themselves) so they can better understand the challenges that border patrol faces and local realities of life along the border.
America’s security depends on the safe and lawful entry of people and goods. To achieve that, we must attract and retain more Customs and Border Protection (CBP) personnel, erect barriers in strategic locations, build roads along the border, and employ state-of-the-art technology to monitor our border. And we must listen to those closest to the problem for solutions.
What people have to say
Say border reform is more important than anything else Congress could address today
Support faster and more thorough inspections at ports
Support hiring more Border Patrol and raising their pay

Americans for Prosperity recently visited Yuma, Arizona, which borders Mexico, to assess the state of our southern border. We’re glad to report that the border is in order. This is much-needed good news after the years of disastrous policies under the Biden administration that created a massive crisis at the border. One in which an […]

Americans agree: We need a secure border. Poll after poll, as well as the last election results, show Americans are on the same page, and it’s no surprise why. The Biden Administration presided over the worst border crisis in recent history, straining community resources, leaving vulnerable people at the mercy of criminal organizations, and paralyzing […]

The Biden administration’s border policy wasn’t humane; it was a disaster. The border provisions in the One Big Beautiful Bill represent a necessary step back toward normal. America’s security depends on the safe and lawful entry of people and goods. Without clear rules and firm border enforcement, communities are destabilized, desperate people seeking better lives […]
