Governor Justice Signs Hope Scholarship Bill, Expanding Educational Opportunity Across West Virginia

Mar 29, 2021 by AFP

CHARLESTON, W.Va.— Americans for Prosperity-West Virginia (AFP-WV) today issued the following statement in response to Governor Jim Justice signing the Hope Scholarship bill into law.

AFP-WV State Director Jason Huffman released the following statement:

“We commend in the highest terms the governor’s support for this transformational policy achievement and call on him to continue to give West Virginia’s students more educational freedom. This is a tremendous day for students and families all across the Mountain State. By ensuring that every child in this state has the opportunity to access the education that is right for them, Hope Scholarships will thoughtfully provide the common-sense educational flexibility that our families deserve. Our state now stands as a model for the entire nation when it comes to innovation and future of K-12 education. It’s a great day to be a Mountaineer.”

Background:

AFP-WV held a virtual press conference with coalition members calling for educational freedom.

Read AFP-WV State Director Jason Huffman’s op-ed in the West Virginia Record on why it’s time to reimagine K-12 education in West Virginia.

AFP-WV issued a key vote alert urging members of the legislature to support the Hope Scholarship bill, which is a form of Education Savings Account legislation. We expect the bill to be introduced soon.

An EdChoice poll shows 64 percent of West Virginians support Education Savings Accounts.
