Jackson, MS – Last week, Americans for Prosperity – Mississippi (AFP-MS) held a discussion with Representative Michael Guest (MS-03) on the economic issues that matter most to Mississippians. During the discussion, Rep. Guest and AFP-MS discussed the latest developments in Congress and the crucial need for tax reform, fiscal responsibility, and cutting government waste – all key steps towards economic prosperity.
This discussion was in conjunction with AFP’s ‘Protect Prosperity’ campaign, which is aimed at supporting the renewal of President Trump’s Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA), which have been highly successful in advancing economic prosperity across the nation. This is the largest effort by a conservative organization to support President Trump’s second-term economic agenda.
Congressman Guest is a champion for common-sense reform, advocating for the renewal of the TCJA and advancing pro-growth policies that cut down red tape, empower small business owners, and foster economic prosperity for Mississippi.
Congressman Guest made the following statement regarding the importance of renewing the TCJA for small businesses:
“In Congress we can do things such as pass these continued Trump tax cuts, get spending under control because I believe out of control spending drives inflation, and we continue to make sure America is energy independent and has low energy costs – I do think we can get back to a growing economy.”
“If we increase the corporate rates on these small mom and pop businesses, that’s less money that they have to pay their employees, that’s less money that they have to invest in inventory, that’s probably increased costs that they have to pass on to the consumer.”
AFP-MS State Director Starla Brown released the following statement:
“Careless policies, reckless spending, and government waste have cost Mississippians dearly over the past four years. Looking forward, we must champion pro-growth policies that encourage economic prosperity. We commend Congressman Guest for his leadership in advocating for hardworking Mississippians and small business owners.
“At AFP-MS, we remain committed to working with lawmakers to renew the TCJA and stop policies that stifle economic growth. Protecting prosperity is about ensuring Americans are protected from excessive government overreach by empowering them with opportunities to succeed and achieve the American dream.”
