AFP-MS State Director Publishes New Op-ed Championing Education Freedom for Mississippi Families

Jackson, MS—Americans for Prosperity-Mississippi (AFP-MS) said National School Choice Week is the perfect time to celebrate opportunities that fit learner’s unique needs as thousands gather around the nation to highlight access to a variety of education pathways.

AFP-MS has long stood for the value that education should not be a one-size-fits-all model that limits parents from making the best choices for their children regardless of income levels, zip codes, or other barriers commonly faced by families. Today, AFP-MS published a new opinion piece celebrating school choice and calling on Mississippi lawmakers to carry the momentum for expanded and diverse learning options.

AFP-MS State Director, Starla Brown, released the following statement:

“We are thrilled to celebrate National School Choice Week, a time to recognize and appreciate the diverse educational options available to families across the country. To best serve Mississippi’s learners and their future aspirations, we must continue to work with legislators to ensure all opportunities for education freedom and growth remain available while supporting traditional public schools, private schools, homeschooling, micro schooling and other pathways to success.”

Background

Recently, AFP-MS released The 601 Blueprint, a 2025 legislative agenda for state lawmakers. Foundational education is a top priority for AFP-MS and the grassroots voters they represent, advocating for state legislators to ensure every student has access to any public school regardless of their address, passing open enrollment, and putting parents in the driver seat of their child’s education by fully supporting Education Savings Accounts (ESAs).
