Americans for Prosperity CEO has a message for New Hampshire voters

Americans for Prosperity CEO Emily Seidel had a message for the voters in the First in the Nation state Wednesday: “We want somebody who can… lead our country forward, and win.”

Seidel, visiting New Hampshire to speak with staff, activists, and reporters ahead of the 2024 presidential election, told Granite Staters that an overwhelming number of Americans want someone other than President Joe Biden or former President Donald Trump.

Americans for Prosperity Action — AFP’s sister organization — plans to endorse a Republican candidate for president during the primary and is already taking action to identify key voters for this cause.

“At some point later this year, when it’s clear who that best candidate is, we’ll be prepared to endorse him or her and then go back to these same voters and persuade them to support that person and make sure they turn out to vote,” Seidel told the Boston Globe Wednesday.

“We want somebody who can turn the page on the last decade of politics in our country, lead our country forward, and win.

“And right now, Donald Trump’s campaign … is not in a position to meet that criteria.”

The key, Seidel says, is to engage earlier in the process and pick better candidates during the primary.

As reported in the Union Leader:

AFP and its political campaign arm, AFP Action, endorsed in 22 primaries at the federal level and nearly 200 more in the states, more than in any other previous election.

The endorsed candidates went on to win 82% of their general election races, Seidel said.

When AFP waited until after the primary to get behind the Republican nominee, that individual won 64% of the time.

“If we want to elect better people, we need better candidates. And if we want better candidates, we’ve got to get involved in elections earlier and in more primaries,” Seidel wrote in her February memo on the strategy heading into 2024.

In 2020, AFP worked directly on 272 general election races. Two years later it nearly doubled that number, to a record 457.”
