AFP-WV Releases 2026 Pathway to Prosperity Legislative Agenda

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – Americans for Prosperity-West Virginia (AFP-WV) today released their 2026 Pathway to Prosperity legislative agenda. The group and their activists across the Mountain State are looking forward to working with principled policy champions to double down on creating jobs, growing the state’s economy, and making West Virginia the number one place to move to, work, and raise a family. West Virginians can view the agenda at WVPathway.com.

AFP-WV State Director Jason Huffman issued the following statement:

“Policy champions have taken tremendous strides toward creating jobs and growing the economy in recent years. But now is not the time to rest on our laurels because West Virginia faces tremendous socioeconomic headwinds. That means we cannot simply try to ‘catch up’ to our surrounding states when it comes to the level of freedom and opportunity that we offer West Virginians. Instead, we must surpass our neighboring states entirely. To do that, we have to become significantly more competitive. From cutting taxes and wasteful government spending, to removing needless red tape and continuing to lead on educational innovation, we have a roadmap of proven reforms to get there.”

Some of the organization’s top priorities include:

  • Continuing to swiftly, but responsibly, phase out the personal income tax
  • Expand the Hope Scholarship to all school-aged children
  • Enact a comprehensive deregulation of the government-run school system to remove regulatory barriers that hold teachers back from providing our students with the individualized education they deserve
  • Institute a moratorium on increased funding for government-run schools and work to right-size West Virginia’s school buildings and administrative bloat, redirecting those savings to our kids through classroom instruction and teacher pay
  • Eliminate antiquated part of state government, like the Division of Personnel
  • Reform the state’s welfare system to root out fraud while getting more people back into the workforce

Through broad-based grassroots outreach, Americans for Prosperity (AFP) is driving long-term solutions to the country’s biggest problems. AFP activists engage friends and neighbors on key issues and encourage them to take an active role in building a culture of mutual benefit, where people succeed by helping one another. AFP recruits and unites West Virginians behind a common goal of advancing policies that will help people improve their lives. For more information, visit www.AmericansForProsperity.org
