ICYMI: Americans for Prosperity and Broad Coalition Call for Educational Freedom
CHARLESTON, W.Va. – Americans for Prosperity-West Virginia (AFP-WV) Today held a virtual press conference with coalition members calling on lawmakers to give families, students, and educators the educational flexibility they deserve by passing the Hope Scholarship bill, a form of Education Savings Accounts.

The grassroots group recently launched a six-figure campaign urging West Virginians to contact their lawmakers and support the Hope Scholarship bill. The campaign includes TV, digital ads, direct mail, and its signature grassroots.
AFP-WV State Director Jason Huffman issued the following statement:
“Educational freedom was on the ballot in 2020 and West Virginians made their voices abundantly clear by overwhelmingly supporting candidates who want to expand educational options for parents and students. Legislative leaders have heard this call and are working to reimagine our approach to K-12 education by creating Education Savings Accounts. This remains AFP-WV’s number one priority. We look forward to working with principled lawmakers, our activists and a very strong coalition comprised of students, parents, and organizations to bring this much needed policy to fruition.”
Background:
The coalition released a letter encouraging lawmakers to support educational freedom by passing the Hope Scholarship bill. Coalition members include students, families, and organizations like the Cardinal Institute on West Virginia Policy, the Institute for Justice, EdChoice, ExcelinEd, Education Choice West Virginia, Association of Christian Schools International, and Catholic Education Partners.

AFP-WV issued a key vote alert urging members of the legislature to support the Hope Scholarship bill, which is a form of Education Savings Account legislation. We expect the bill to be introduced soon.
An EdChoice poll shows 64 percent of West Virginians support Education Savings Accounts.
