Americans for Prosperity: Time to Open Up New Opportunities for Georgia Beauty Entrepreneurs

“These popular services offer a real opportunity for aspiring beauty entrepreneurs to launch their own small business, but the current licensing requirements discourage many from trying.”

ATLANTA – Americans for Prosperity – Georgia (AFP-GA) today praised Representative Beth Camp (R-Concord) for introducing House Bill 1231, the Niche Beauty Services Opportunity Act. This legislation would reduce the regulatory burden around niche beauty services like blow dry styling, eyebrow threading, and makeup artistry.

Bill text is available here.

AFP-GA State Director Stephen Allison released the following statement:

“Eyebrow threading, blow dry styling, and makeup artistry are niche services that offer no harm to consumers yet require a beauty license and thousands of dollars of cosmetology school. These popular services offer a real opportunity for aspiring beauty entrepreneurs to launch their own small business, but the current licensing requirements discourage many from trying. This bill is a commonsense solution to break down that regulatory red tape for Georgia’s talented beauticians.”

The Niche Beauty Service Opportunity Act:

  • Defines the limited scope of practice for blow dry styling and eyebrow threading;
  • Creates a distinction between the “big three” beauty licenses and the following niche beauty services: shampooing, blow dry styling, threading, and makeup artistry; and
  • Exempts those niche beauty services from individual and facility license requirements.
