AFP Takes Border Solutions to Nevada and Montana

Aug 22, 2024 by AFP

Nearly nine million illegal crossings, including nearly two million got aways. That’s the catastrophic record of the Biden-Harris Administration border policy.

That’s why AFP has hosted dozens of events nationwide to explain to Americans what good border policy looks like.

In the last two months, AFP went to Nevada,  Montana,  where retired Border Patrol Chief Chris Clem, AFP Immigration Policy Fellow, Jordan Fischetti, and LIBRE’s policy director Isabel Soto talked to hundreds of concerned citizens and showed how our Four Pillars strategy is key to securing our border, reforming our immigration system, and ensuring America’s continued economic competitiveness.

The people of Nevada and Montana are feeling the consequences of the Biden-Harris border crisis, and are desperate to find a way out of the current mayhem.

Thankfully, AFP cares about solutions, not politicking.

We are doing the arduous but crucial job of talking to thousands of Americans, educating them on the right policies, and energizing our grassroots army to make border policy reform a real possibility.

Four pillars to build a secure border

The chaos at the border is turning every state into a border state, and polls show Americans overwhelmingly agree Congress must get to work and secure our border. The problem? No one is really talking about effective policy solutions that can bring some much-needed order to our southern border.

That’s where AFP comes in: We have pragmatic policies that can quickly stabilize the border, restore America’s rule of law, and give us a crucial economic advantage for the next generation.

To secure the border, however, we need to go beyond just the border.

Like Chief Clem says, “We need tall fences and wide gates to secure the border”

Our strategy does just that: it provides resources to secure the border in the short term while engaging in structural reforms that will keep it safe for generations to come.

Here’s how our four-pillar strategy works:

  • Secure our borders and ports: America needs to have operational control over who enters and leaves the country. This is critical for our national security and to uphold the rule of law. We can do this by investing in more personnel, infrastructure, and state-of-the-art technology.
  • Bolster American competitiveness: Our immigration system is leaving us unprepared to compete economically against rivals like China. We need to ensure we attract the best talent, eliminate unnecessary immigration backlogs, and protect ourselves from foreign espionage.
  • Clear rules and clear outcomes: America’s immigration system is an incomprehensible maze of laws and regulations that is too costly and unpredictable, punishing people who want to come legally and rewarding those who don’t. We need to create an immigration system that is fair and rational.
  • Transparency, accountability, and due process: The only way the government will have the confidence of the American people is  if it’s accountable to the people. The government must provide detailed monthly updates on gotaways, where they crossed, and how many crossers were on a terrorist watchlist. Washington must also ensure due process and efficiency for all those who apply for immigration status.

For years, Washington has been derelict in its duties and left our border unsafe and our immigration system in shambles , risking our national security and jeopardizing our commitment to the rule of law. AFP’s four-pillar strategy energizes AFP’s grassroots army and gives our lawmakers the policy tools to solve the border crisis.
