COLUMBIA, SC — Americans for Prosperity – South Carolina (AFP-SC) today applauded U.S. Rep. Nancy Mace (SC-01) for co-leading a House Oversight Subcommittee hearing highlighting the States Reform Act. The bill would federally decriminalize cannabis and turn over prohibition and commercial regulation to states, similar to how alcohol is treated.
AFP-SC State Director Candace Carroll released the following statement:
“Ending the criminalization of cannabis is long overdue, and we thank Rep. Mace for her steadfast leadership on this issue. The States Reform Act is one of the few bills that, if enacted, would be both a free market and improve public safety. In January, AFP will reignite the push for South Carolina to join the 37 other states that allow residents access to medicinal cannabis. Rep. Mace noted the support in the state for medicinal cannabis, which is used to treat everything from autism to chronic pain, multiple sclerosis, and the effects of chemotherapy.”
Last year, after it passed the State Senate, the State House ruled the Compassionate Care Act out of order. This legislation would allow marijuana to be prescribed by licensed physicians, acquired from a highly regulated state-authorized dispensary, and used for 13 specific conditions, under a clear set of rules.
