Baton Rouge, LA—Following this week’s House Appropriations Committee passage of HB 745, Americans for Prosperity-Louisiana (AFP-LA) is applauding the action and says that empowering parents to direct funds to the best learning environment for their child will unleash access to more education opportunities.
AFP-LA State Director, Scott Simon, released the following statement:
“Transforming Louisiana’s education system starts at home, not from a top-down system that tells parents what the best learning environment is for their children. AFP-LA is thrilled that the House Appropriations Committee voted in favor of Rep. Emerson’s bill, investing in the future of children across our state.
“Supporting Education Savings Accounts reinforces the fact that education isn’t a one-size-fits-all model, and our students shouldn’t be expected to achieve the same outcomes when they have individual needs. The GATOR Scholarship fund aims to eliminate barriers some families face, not take away from our public schools.”
Background
Simon testified in support of universal ESAs before the House and Senate committees and recently held a grassroots Day at the Capitol with the lead sponsor of HB 745, State Representative Julie Emerson (HD-39), as well as parents, elected officials, and Louisiana State Superintendent of Education Dr. Cade Brumley.
AFP-LA recently announced its Geaux School Choice campaign to create awareness for ESAs through digital ads, activating its strong grassroots base to take a message of education freedom to voters door-to-door and most recently, launched GeauxSchoolChoice.com as a leading resource for Louisiana residents.
