Grassroots group commends lawmakers for working to remove barriers to opportunity for Granite Staters

CONCORD, N.H.—Americans for Prosperity-New Hampshire (AFP-NH) released the following statement upon passage of HB1685, a bill to create a legislative commission to study occupational licenses in New Hampshire and recommend actions to seek alternatives to overly-burdensome licensing requirements, allowing Granite Staters greater opportunity and economic prosperity.

“HB1685 takes a common-sense step towards adjusting our occupational licensure structure. One in every four Granite Staters require a permission slip to work, compared to 1950 when only five percent of occupations required a license – a clear sign of a system exceeding its intention,” said AFP-NH Grassroots Director Ross Connolly. “This bill provides a critical opportunity to review licensing and break down unnecessary barriers which keep job-seeking Granite Staters from looking for work, especially the least fortunate. The House did an outstanding job passing this legislation today that will give more New Hampshire residents the chance to pursue their dreams.”
