AFP-PA Opposes Constitutional Amendment to Prevent Future Right to Work Laws

Harrisburg, Pennsylvania—Americans for Prosperity-Pennsylvania (AFP-PA) today opposed the General Assembly’s move to start the process to amend the state constitution to forever prevent the state from enacting right to work laws. The House Committee on Labor and Industry, led by Rep. Jason Dawkins announced yesterday that it would hold a hearing to start the constitutional amendment process.

Right-to-work laws, which exist in over half of the United States, protect workers’ rights to free association by preventing forced unionization in the workplace.

AFP-PA Deputy State Director Emily Greene gave the following statement after the committee wrapped its hearing:

“Pennsylvanians undisputedly deserve the right to work. While Pennsylvania does not currently protect worker freedom by protecting individuals’ decisions to opt-out of unions, it is egregious that the Democrat-controlled chamber would try to abuse its party’s limited majority in the General Assembly to amend the state constitution in such a way as to forever abridge workers’ rights in the Keystone State.

“AFP-PA will oppose any and all efforts to curtail worker freedom, including this constitutional amendment.”
