AFP-KS Celebrates Final Passage of Bill to Establish Transparency for Regulation-Setting Agencies

Commonly referred to as the REINS Act, AFP-KS says today’s vote is a victory for Kansas ratepayers

TOPEKA, KS—Americans for Prosperity-Kansas (AFP-KS) is celebrating the passage of HB 2648 which will mark a new era of accountability and economic freedom in the Sunflower State. This legislation will require a thorough review and legislative approval for major regulations, putting the power back in the hands of the people and their elected officials.

AFP-KS State Director, Elizabeth Patton, issued the following statement:

“Regulations cost money to the state to enforce, businesses to implement, and consumers to absorb. HB 2648 is adding strength to our legislator’s ability to add accountability to the regulatory process where it does not currently exist.

“Adding checks and balances on a process based on the economic costs and impact of regulations is a smart policy and it is well past time that Kansas made this improvement. If we want to be a state that is open for business and a place where families can afford to live, work, and stay then the Governor ought to sign this bill for the health of our economic future.”
